It is important to know that depression takes many forms.

You find it difficult to take care of yourself. Depression has long been associated with dysfunction of the frontal lobes, so it’s not a surprise that people with depression find it hard to self-care.
You lose interest in your favorite activities. Depression can cause you to lose interest in activities you once enjoyed.
You feel drained. There are significant links between depression and exhaustion. If you are living with depression, feeling too tired to do anything is probably a common occurrence.
When you are depressed, your energy levels tend to decline, with symptoms such as sadness and emptiness further exacerbating feelings of fatigue.
You feel empty and alone. Depression can be described as a sense of emptiness is related to feelings of hopelessness, loss of pleasure, low self-worth, and low motivation.
You experience severe mood swings. A mood swing is a sudden or intense change in an emotional state. During a mood swing, a person may quickly switch from feeling happy and upbeat to feeling sad, irritable, or angry.
You are overwhelmed with negative thoughts. Depression can be caused by negative thinking, itself. Our feelings follow what we are thinking, and dwelling upon negative thoughts can send us spiraling down into depression.
You experience psychotic symptoms. Three main symptoms are associated with a psychotic episode include hallucinations, delusions, and confused and disturbed thoughts.
You feel overwhelming sadness, hopelessness, and grief.
You think about death.
