Changing meal times may help you lose weight, improve health

In a recent study, researchers found that changing breakfast time and dinner time could help people lose body fat.

The research was conducted by a team from the University of Surrey.

In the current study, the team examined how changing meal times affects eating behaviors, body fat and blood markers for diabetes and heart disease.

They conducted a 10-week experiment on ‘time-restricted feeding’, which is a form of intermittent fasting.

Participants were divided into two groups.

One group was required to delay their breakfast by 90 minutes and have their dinner 90 minutes earlier.

The the other group ate breakfast and dinner as they would normally.

In addition, both groups provided blood samples and diet diaries before and during the study.

The researchers found people who changed their mealtimes lost more than twice as much body fat as those who ate their meals at normal times.

Reducing body fat could lower the chances of developing obesity and related diseases, so is vital in improving overall health.

Moreover, people who changed the meal times had reduced appetite and ate less food compare with people who ate at normal times.

While the new meal times are a bit hard to be compatible with family and social life, many participants would like to consider continuing if eating times were more flexible.

The findings suggest that their findings show how slight alterations to our meal times could have benefits to our bodies.

The lead author of the study is Dr. Jonathan Johnston from the University of Surrey.

The study is published in the Journal of Nutritional Sciences.
