Nowadays, you can find many promises on social media about quick ways to lose weight. One of the latest trends in diabetes medicine being used as a weight loss pill.

But doctors are warning that this is not a good idea. There’s no magic solution to losing weight, and using this medicine for weight loss can cause problems.

Once you stop taking it, you might gain back even more weight than you lost.

The Concerns of Obesity

Obesity is a big problem in our society. According to the National Institute of Health, over 2 out of 5 adults are obese.

Obesity is linked to many diseases like diabetes, heart disease, stroke, and certain cancers like breast and colorectal cancer. This makes obesity a big worry for everyone.

Bariatric Surgery: A Hopeful Solution

But there’s good news. A new study published in the Obesity journal found that a surgery called bariatric surgery could help people with severe obesity.

People who got this surgery were much less likely to die from heart disease, diabetes, or cancer compared to people who didn’t get the surgery.

Dr. Hans Schmidt, who is in charge of Bariatric Surgery at Hackensack University Medical Center, explains how it works.

“Bariatric surgery changes the way the digestive system works to help people lose weight,” he says. “The benefits of bariatric surgery can be much greater than the potential problems.”

When other ways to lose weight have failed, Dr. Schmidt says bariatric surgery is often the best choice. It reduces how much the stomach can hold, so people feel full faster and eat less.

A Real-Life Success Story

Alex Monteleone knows how well bariatric surgery works. He’s a 38-year-old detective at the Palisades Park Police Department.

He had bariatric surgery in 2018 and lost almost 100 pounds. Not only that, but he’s also no longer at risk of getting diabetes or high blood pressure.

In conclusion, while quick weight loss pills may seem like an easy solution, the experts suggest that they could do more harm than good.

Instead, for people with severe obesity who have tried other methods without success, bariatric surgery could offer a more reliable and healthier solution.
