Artificial sweeteners are also being studied for their possible effects on kidney health. Some research suggests that using large amounts of these sweeteners over a long time may be linked to a decline in kidney function. While more studies are needed to fully understand this connection, it is a good idea to use these products in moderation.

The good news is that protecting your kidneys does not require extreme changes. Choosing fresh or frozen foods instead of processed ones is a simple and effective step.

Cooking at home allows you to control how much salt you use, and adding herbs and spices can make meals tasty without extra sodium. Drinking enough water helps your kidneys remove waste from your body more easily.
