Lifestyle choices also connect the two problems. Not getting enough exercise, eating poorly, smoking, and drinking too much alcohol can all make both high blood pressure and bone loss worse.
On the other hand, healthy habits like regular walking, eating calcium-rich foods, and getting vitamin D can help control blood pressure and strengthen bones at the same time.
If you have high blood pressure, it’s a good idea to talk to your doctor about your bone health. You might need to get a bone density test, especially if you are older or at risk of osteoporosis. Taking care of your blood pressure doesn’t just protect your heart — it can help protect your bones too.
