Anxiety is defined as “a feeling of worry, nervousness, or unease about something with an uncertain outcome” and in psychology, also when perceiving a real or imagined threat.

Fast heart rate, rapid breathing, sweating and feeling tired may occur.

An anxiety condition isn’t developed or caused by a single factor but a combination of things. A number of other factors play a role, including personality factors, difficult life experiences and physical health.

Anxiety is related to but different from stress.

Stress is commonly defined as “a state of mental or emotional strain or tension” that people experience when there are negative or emotionally and physically draining circumstances.

People under stress experience mental and physical symptoms, such as irritability, anger, fatigue, muscle pain, digestive troubles, and difficulty sleeping.

Anxiety, on the other hand, is defined by persistent, excessive worries that don’t go away even in the absence of a stressor.
