Even more importantly, the study showed that the drug reduced the risk of serious events like heart attacks and strokes by 13 percent. This is important because it shows that the drug not only improves cholesterol levels but also provides real protection for the heart.
Further research also found that the heart benefits of bempedoic acid were similar to those seen with statins. This is a key finding, as it shows that even though the drug works differently, it can still provide strong protection against heart disease.
Heart disease and stroke remain the leading causes of death worldwide. Because of this, finding new and effective ways to manage cholesterol is very important. Bempedoic acid offers an additional option, especially for people who cannot use traditional treatments.
One of the researchers involved in the study, Dr. A. Michael Lincoff from the Cleveland Clinic, explained that this drug gives doctors another tool to help patients manage their cholesterol more effectively. Having more treatment options allows care to be more flexible and better suited to each individual.

For example, some treatments for diabetes help control blood sugar but do not always reduce the risk of heart disease.
