Feeling tired all the time is something many people deal with, especially those who live with chronic health conditions.
A new study from researchers at The University of New Mexico has found that using cannabis flower—also known as the dried part of the marijuana plant—might help people feel more energetic and less tired. The results of this study were published in the journal Medical Cannabis and Cannabinoids.
The study was led by Jacob Miguel Vigil and looked at how cannabis affects fatigue, a symptom that comes with many health problems like chronic pain, cancer, Parkinson’s disease, and multiple sclerosis. These conditions often make it hard for people to stay active or feel rested, so finding a treatment for fatigue is important.
According to the study, more than 91% of users said their feelings of tiredness improved after using cannabis flower. On a scale from 0 to 10, where 10 is extreme fatigue, people said their symptoms got better by an average of 3.5 points. That’s a big change, especially for those who deal with fatigue every day.
The researchers found that the way people used cannabis made a difference. Smoking joints—hand-rolled cannabis cigarettes—worked better for reducing fatigue than using a pipe or vaporizer.
But overall, people reported feeling less tired no matter how they used the cannabis or how much THC (the main substance that causes a “high”) or CBD (another cannabis compound) was in it.
In total, the team looked at 3,922 sessions where people used cannabis and recorded how they felt before and after. These sessions came from 1,224 different individuals. What makes this research unique is that it used real-time data collected through a mobile app, meaning the information was recorded by users as they experienced the effects.
Interestingly, the study also suggests that cannabis might be a safer option than many of the energy drinks and supplements people use to fight tiredness.
These products often contain high amounts of sugar or caffeine, which can cause other health problems over time. Cannabis, on the other hand, may offer a more natural way to help people feel more awake and focused.
This study shows that cannabis has real potential to help people manage fatigue in a way that is both effective and preferred by many patients.
However, the researchers also point out that more studies are needed. Understanding how different cannabis products work, how much people should use, and who can benefit the most will help doctors and patients make better choices.
As the health industry continues to explore natural and alternative treatments, cannabis could become a key player in managing symptoms like fatigue. The study gives hope to those who struggle with low energy and are looking for better solutions.
