A new study from The University of New Mexico has found that cannabis flower may be a helpful way to reduce tiredness, especially in people with long-term health problems.
The study was led by Jacob Miguel Vigil and published in the journal Medical Cannabis and Cannabinoids.
Fatigue, or feeling very tired, is a common symptom in many chronic illnesses such as cancer, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, and long-term pain.
Many people struggle with low energy, which affects their daily lives and well-being. This new research shows that cannabis might be a natural way to help boost energy levels.
The study looked at real-time data from 3,922 sessions where people used cannabis to treat fatigue. The information came from 1,224 users who shared their experiences through a mobile app. After using cannabis, more than 91% of them said they felt less tired. On average, their fatigue improved by 3.5 points on a scale from 0 to 10.
Interestingly, the way people used cannabis made a difference. Smoking cannabis in a rolled cigarette, or “joint,” gave better results than using a pipe or a vaporizer. But no matter how it was taken, users reported feeling more energetic.
The results were positive even though the cannabis products had different levels of THC or CBD, the two main active chemicals in cannabis.
This suggests that the overall effect of cannabis flower—not just THC or CBD—may play a role in reducing tiredness. People with serious conditions like cancer and Parkinson’s disease also said that cannabis helped them feel more awake and alert.
These findings offer hope that cannabis could be a natural alternative to traditional medications and energy-boosting products like caffeine drinks or fatigue supplements.
Many of those products can come with side effects or may not work well for everyone. Cannabis, on the other hand, might provide a safer and more effective option for people looking to increase their energy.
The research supports the idea that cannabis can help people feel more in control of their energy levels, especially when facing chronic illness. It also shows the need for more research into how cannabis can be used as part of everyday health care or even as a product in the wellness market.
As more people search for natural ways to improve their health and feel better, cannabis flower may become an important option in the future of medicine and wellness.
