These foods may harm your kidneys

Dairy products like milk, cheese, and yogurt are healthy in small amounts, but they are high in phosphorus and potassium. If your kidneys aren’t working well, your body may not be able to get rid of these minerals. This can lead to weak bones and heart issues. So, people with kidney concerns should eat dairy in moderation.

Potassium is a mineral that your body needs, especially for your muscles and heart. But if your kidneys can’t remove extra potassium, it can build up and cause problems with your heartbeat. Foods that are high in potassium include bananas, oranges, potatoes, and spinach.

Some people are also concerned about artificial sweeteners. These are sugar substitutes found in many diet drinks and low-sugar foods.

While scientists are still studying them, some research suggests that using a lot of these sweeteners may lower kidney function over time. If you want a sweet treat, using small amounts of honey or maple syrup may be a safer choice.

To take care of your kidneys, try to eat less salt, choose fresh or frozen foods instead of canned ones, and limit foods that are high in phosphorus and potassium. Also, drink plenty of water. Staying hydrated helps your kidneys do their job well.
