New treatment approach boosts stroke survival

When blood leaks into the brain, this is called an intracerebral hemorrhage, or ICH. It’s a kind of stroke and it’s quite deadly.

In fact, it’s the second most common type of stroke.

Around 40% to 50% of people who have an ICH will die within a month. Each year, around 3.4 million people have an ICH.

The INTERACT3 Study: An Overview

The INTERACT3 study is the first of its kind. It’s a big study that was done in 144 hospitals in 10 different countries.

The study looked at over 7,000 patients who had an ICH. This is a really serious type of stroke, so it’s important to find ways to treat it effectively.

New Treatment Combination: The Care Bundle

In the study, the researchers tested a new treatment method. They call it a “Care Bundle.” This bundle is all about quickly controlling high blood pressure.

High blood pressure can be a big problem in people who have had an ICH. If it’s not brought under control quickly, the patient’s condition can get worse.

But the Care Bundle method did just that. It helped lower the patients’ blood pressure quickly. On average, it took just 2.3 hours. In comparison, in the group that didn’t receive this method, it took around 4 hours.

The Care Bundle didn’t stop at controlling high blood pressure.

It also included strict control of blood sugar levels, fever treatment, and fast reversal of any problems with anticoagulation, which is a process that stops blood clots from forming.

Positive Outcomes from the Care Bundle

The results of the study were good news. The patients who received the Care Bundle treatment had better chances of survival.

They were less likely to die or have serious disability. For every 35 patients treated with the Care Bundle, one additional life could be saved.

The patients also spent less time in the hospital and had fewer serious side effects. Plus, their quality of life was better overall.

The researchers believe that if this treatment method was used everywhere, it could save tens of thousands of lives each year.

Why the Study Matters

This study is a big deal because ICH is a serious problem, especially in low- and middle-income countries. These countries have more cases of ICH than high-income countries do.

This is partly because they have more people with high blood pressure and they don’t have as many resources to prevent and treat stroke.

That’s why it’s so important to find effective treatments that can be used in these countries.

The INTERACT3 study shows that the Care Bundle method could be a great option. It’s simple, it’s effective, and it could save many lives.
