We all experience stress and anxiety from time to time.

In those moments, it can be tempting to quell emotions with food. For some, food can be a source of comfort or distraction. But, sometimes, they can aggravate what you may already be feeling.

If you struggle with anxiety and stress, making some changes in your diet can help.

Foods naturally rich in magnesium may, therefore, help a person to feel calmer. Examples include leafy greens, such as spinach and Swiss chard.

Other sources include legumes, nuts, seeds, and whole grains. Foods rich in zinc such as oysters, cashews, liver, beef, and egg yolks have been linked to lowered anxiety.

There are some foods you need to avoid if you have anxiety, including Cakes, cookies, candy and pies; Sugary drinks; Processed meats, cheese and ready-made meals; Coffee, tea and energy drinks; Alcohol; Fruit and vegetable smoothies with high glycemic indexes; Gluten, Artificial sweeteners.
