In a new study from the University of Maine and elsewhere, researchers found yogurt consumption can help lower blood pressure in older adults with elevated levels.

In the study, the team examined the link between yogurt consumption and blood pressure among older adults with and without high blood pressure.
They analyzed cross-sectional data for 915 adults (average age 62.1 years). Approximately 62% of the people had high blood pressure as defined as 140/90 mmHg.
The team revealed strong reductions in systolic blood pressure among those with high blood pressure who consumed yogurt.
The study was the first to ask whether yogurt reduces blood pressure for persons who exhibit normal blood pressure levels.
There was no improvement linked to eating yogurt in individuals with normal blood pressure.
Previous work indicated a positive link between Mediterranean Diet and better cognitive function and between other dairy products and lowering of blood pressure in persons free from a history of stroke and kidney disease.
