Shortages of toilet paper earlier this year showed just how fragile our global supply chain is when it is under duress.

And as scientists around the world scramble to find a treatment for COVID-19, that fragility may prove to have even more dire consequences.

“It’s not going to be sufficient just to get a viable vaccine,” says distinguished professor Nada Sanders. A reliable supply of medical components, she says, is just as necessary.
